Former Agency Recruiter Now Trains Brand Ambassadors

Kenny Azama

Sometimes, you realize the grass is truly greener on the other side.

Such was the case for Kenny Azama, a former marketing agency recruiter from LA. The 2012 graduate of UC Irvine first started out in the industry by accepting a job at an experiential marketing agency in Los Angeles as a Program Manager. It wasn’t long before he realized that the staff he was hiring seemed be to have the time of their life.

“It was pretty fun putting together the promo events,” he said. “But I was always dumbfounded how the brand ambassadors I was hiring were making way more money and having way more fun than I was.”

Kenny continued at his job for a couple of years, later becoming dissatisfied with his 9-5 office routine and instead eager to jump into this other world of brand ambassador work. He left his job to begin working promo jobs in the field, hasn’t looked back since.

As his resumé as a BA began to grow and Kenny began to really excel at his new career, he started getting a lot of questions from others asking how they too could be a part of this amazing industry.

“I figured I would throw up a website and start teaching people and that’s how my website, Brand Ambassador World, came to be,” he shares. “Being a Brand Ambassador has allowed me to work with the most amazing brands, get access into the coolest events, and travel all over the nation. It’s seriously got to be the best-kept side hustle secret!”

Since then, Kenny’s new company has grown immensely and he has helped thousands of people become brand ambassadors through his content. Now 4 years deep into the experiential marketing industry, he offers both free and paid content to support brand ambassadors worldwide – one of those programs being the Brand Ambassador Blueprint.

“The thing is, the brand ambassador industry can be super complicated, overwhelming, and straight up competitive – especially if you’re just getting started. I was getting countless emails from people asking for more help, tips, and strategies but I didn’t have the time and resources to coach each person one on one so I decided to create an extensive online course with all of my strategies and tips from my years at the agency and out in the field,” said Kenny.

That’s where the Brand Ambassador Blueprint comes in.

“In it, I share all of the exact strategies I use to make over $8,000/month as a brand ambassador and pretty much get hired for gigs whenever I want. If you have a friendly and outgoing personality and want to get paid to represent your favorite brands at the biggest events across the nation, then The Brand Ambassador Blueprint is your easy shortcut to that reality.” **

It is the first definitive course of its kind.

Kenny adds, “I think in this day and age, it’s now more important than ever to find side hustles and learn how to BRAND yourself. Whether you are a graphic designer, an accountant, or a brand ambassador, position yourself as an expert, brand yourself, and create your own life…or else someone else will create it for you.”

When Kenny isn’t busy working as a BA or tour manager, you may find him traveling or training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. (He says, “Holla at me if you ever want to take a class in LA!”)

He also shares how reading and listening to podcasts has helped him grow both personally and professionally.

How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie is a MUST READ for learning how to improve your social skills and overall relationships with people. The School of Greatness podcast by Lewis Howes is [also] amazing! He brings on experts from all walks of life and in every 30-60 minute episode; you get incredible insight that takes years of real life experience to learn. Definitely check it out.”

What is the funniest thing that’s ever happened to you while working a promo?

“Oh boy…There was this one time I had back-to- back shifts so I packed my toothbrush and toothpaste to freshen up in between the two gigs. Normal, right? Well during my break, I went to go brush my teeth and the toothpaste tasted kind of funny but I didn’t think anything of it. All of a sudden, my lips and gums got really numb and I started panicking! It turned out that instead of packing my toothpaste, I packed and used my dad’s hemorrhoid cream by accident!

Needless to say, I texted my boss to say I’d be a little late to the second gig…”

What are some of your future goals within the promo industry?

“Working as a Brand Ambassador and Tour Manager has allowed me to travel to and work at amazing events in 39 different states across the US. So one of my future goals now is to work promo gigs in all 50 states!”

What’s your favorite quote?
